National enforcement authorities in EU member states have agreed to conduct a pilot project to check the classification of mixtures under the CLP regulation.

The exercise was agreed by members of Echa’s Enforcement Forum on 19th June, 2019 and the pilot project will focus on detergents and cleaning products, but other types of mixtures may also be covered in the scope.

A Forum working group will also explore, whether it can take actions to improve safety data sheets (SDSs) when it meets on 4th July, 2019. The group will seek to find solutions which stakeholder organisations can carry out to improve SDS quality, with a view to presenting them at the Forum open session in November.

A recent Forum report analysing 197 SDSs identified a number of common deficiencies in key sections. The report also makes recommendations about how these could be addressed. See the Forum’s (16/05/2019) Report on Improving SDSs.

Last year, a Forum project that checked more than 1,300 online adverts for hazardous chemical mixtures across the EU found over 82% were non-compliant under the CLP Regulation.
